Israel-Palestine message from six country leaders

US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a joint statement on Israel-Palestine.

The leaders reiterated their support for Israel’s right to self-defense and called for compliance with international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians.

THE HOSTAGES MUST BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY

In their joint statement, the leaders stated that they were pleased with the return of the two freed American citizens and that all hostages should be released immediately.

In his statement about the freed citizens, US President Joe Biden said: “I spoke with two Americans who were freed after being taken hostage by Hamas. “I informed them that their government will fully support them,” he said.

STABILITY WILL BE MAINTAINED IN THE MIDDLE EAST

In the joint statement, the leaders welcomed the arrival of the first humanitarian aid to Palestinians in need in Gaza and pledged to simultaneously work with partners in the region to ensure continued and safe access to food, water, care medical and other necessary assistance.

The leaders also emphasized their commitment to maintaining close diplomatic coordination, including with key partners in the region, to prevent the spread of the conflict, maintain stability in the Middle East, and work toward a political solution and lasting peace.
