Appeal to Gaza from the European Parliament

The draft resolution on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was accepted in the vote held in the General Assembly of the European Parliament (EP).

In the draft resolution, which was adopted by 500 votes to 21, parliamentarians condemned Hamas’ “despicable terrorist attacks” against Israel and expressed serious concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The parliamentarians stressed the need to “eliminate the terrorist organization Hamas” and called for the immediate release of all captives kidnapped by Hamas.

Stating that they defend Israel’s right to self-defense as “contained and limited in international law,” the parliamentarians stated that “Israel’s actions must strictly respect international humanitarian law.”

“LET THE CONFLICTS CEASE”

The parliamentarians called for a “humanitarian cessation” of hostilities and stressed that attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure, including UN staff, doctors and journalists, was a serious violation of international law.

Citing the worsening situation in Gaza, the lawmakers called on Egypt and Israel to cooperate with the international community to establish humanitarian corridors to the Gaza Strip.

CALL FOR AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION

MEPs called for an independent international investigation into Israel’s attack on al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza and for the perpetrators to be held accountable. (AA)
