Russia: we are ready to negotiate Türkiye’s guarantor formula

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that they are willing to discuss and evaluate Turkey’s formula to create guarantor countries for the parties to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, Lavrov responded to journalists’ questions about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after his contacts in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. Lavrov stated that Russia hopes to continue consultations with relevant countries for the resolution of the conflict, saying: “Egypt is taking the initiative. Yes, we all want tensions in the Gaza Strip to decrease. “There will be contacts in the coming days and in this process it will become clear how realistic it is to trust this,” he said.

Evaluating the Turkish idea of a system in which the parties would be guarantor countries of permanent peace on the Israeli-Palestinian issue, Lavrov said: “We are ready to negotiate any constructive proposal. This initiative, which I heard about the other day, clearly arises from the desire to reduce tensions and normalize the situation. “Of course, we would like to know exactly what our Turkish friends with whom we are in contact mean on this issue,” he said.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that they proposed the idea of a system in which the parties would have guarantors of permanent peace on the Palestinian-Israeli issue. Stating that Turkey could be a guarantor for Palestine and other countries could be a guarantor for Israel, Fidan said: “After reaching an agreement that will be agreed upon by both sides, the guarantor countries must take responsibility for meeting their requirements.” (AA)
