US veto of Gaza at the UN
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) today voted on the draft resolution prepared by Brazil, which calls for the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
The meeting, chaired by Brazil, was also attended by the Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, and the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia.
RUSSIA AND ENGLAND ARE ABSOLUTE
There were 12 “yes” votes, 2 “abstentions” and 1 “no” votes.
In the 15-member UNSC, Russia and the United Kingdom abstained from voting on the bill, to which the United States, one of the permanent members, voted “no.”

Thomas-Greenfield said Hamas’s own actions caused the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Russia’s Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia, whose proposed changes to the draft resolution were not accepted, said: “Delegations that do not accept the condemnation of civilians do not want the bloodshed in the Middle East to stop.”

ABOUT THE DRAFT DECISION
The draft resolution called for a “pause in hostilities” to allow UN and humanitarian partners access to Gaza. The bill condemned Hamas’ “terrorist attacks” and also condemned all forms of violence against civilians.
