An oil tanker hits a mine in the Black Sea
A Liberian-flagged oil tanker struck a mine off the coast of Romania in the Black Sea yesterday, causing minor damage but the crew were said to be safe.
The sources made the statement.
This ship, which will remind us that commercial ships in the region face dangers, was the second ship to hit a mine in the Black Sea this month.
Yörük Işık, president of the Bosphorus Observer consultancy, told Reuters that the oil tanker Ali Najafov was near the Sulina canal, near Romania, when the explosion occurred yesterday.
A Ukrainian source also confirmed that the ship hit a mine. Palmali, the tanker’s director in Istanbul, did not respond to questions.
Ukraine had created a temporary “humanitarian corridor” to export grain to Africa after Russia withdrew from the Black Sea grain corridor deal.
After Russia invaded Ukraine last year, it blocked the ports of Ukraine, one of the world’s largest grain exporters, and prevented grain exports.
