Ambulance officers said he “died” when he opened his eyes at the hospital.
The patient, who was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital in County Durham, England, and pronounced dead by ambulance crews, opened his eyes at the hospital hours later.
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) apologized to the patient’s family and said an investigation had been launched.
Andrew Hodge, Director of Paramedicine, said: “As soon as we became aware of this incident we launched an investigation and contacted the patient’s family. “We are very sorry for the distress this has caused you.”
“A full investigation into this incident is underway and we are unable to comment further at this time. “The colleagues involved are being appropriately investigated and we will not be commenting further on any individual at this time.” saying.
The identity and current condition of the patient involved in the incident was not revealed.
