The very dangerous “Portuguese soldier” began to be seen on the beaches
The creature called Physalia physalis, also known as the Physalia jellyfish, was spotted on a beach in Cornwall, England.
This extremely dangerous species of jellyfish can cause terrible pain, leaving painful scars on the skin for hours.
A spokesperson for the lifeguard team who spotted the sea creatures at the weekend said: “Walking around Hannafore this morning I noticed several physalis jellyfish stranded along the coast and among the rocks. If you’re exploring the beaches today, pay more attention to yourself, your children, and your pets; “Although they are fascinating creatures, they have a stinger in their tentacle, so keep a safe distance.” He made a statement.
“Portuguese soldiers” were also discovered on Porthleven beach last week. “Fascinating,” said one visitor who saw at least 20 physalis jellyfish.
The visitor said: “They must have recently been blown into Mount’s Bay by strong westerly winds and I counted at least 20 of them. “My understanding is that this coincides with the time of year when most sightings are recorded in the West Country.” he added.
