Putin: Israel faces attack unprecedented in history
Russian President Putin answered questions from journalists after the Summit of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Kyrgyzstan.
Regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Putin said: “Israel faces an attack unprecedented in history. “Not only in terms of scale, but also in the way it is made, in its hardness.” he said.
Putin noted that everything should be named correctly, saying: “Israel is responding to this with large-scale and quite brutal methods. “Of course we understand the logic of events, but despite all the suffering on both sides, I think we must also consider the civilian population.” he said.
“UNACCEPTABLE”
Pointing out that even in the US there are already assessments about the situation, Putin said: “There are several considerations for the development of events, including the idea that the same type of military and non-military measures can be taken regarding the Gaza Strip, such as during the siege of Leningrad during World War II.” Options arise. But we understand what this is connected with. And I think that’s unacceptable.” he said.
On the other hand, Putin stated that Israel has the right to ensure its security and guarantee this security, and that a way out of this situation must be found. Putin stated that this could be achieved thanks to mediation efforts.
“ARMENIA WILL NOT LEAVE THE CIS”
After Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not attend the CIS summit, “Will Armenia leave the CIS?” In response to a question, Putin said: “Pashinyan called me and we talked about today’s summit, as well as some issues. There are situations that I think are quite understandable. It would be better to ask Pashinyan about this. But from what I understand, Armenia will not leave the CIS.” saying.
Regarding the Russian Peace Force serving in Karabakh, Putin said: “Our peace force will officially be there until November 2025, but of course we will meet with our partners. In the near future we will have to determine and decide what and how we will do it. “We will decide this during the negotiations.” he said.
Putin said he was in contact with Pashinyan and that mutual visits could take place in the future.
“I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW IT EXISTED”
Assessing the possibility of sabotage after damage to the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia in Europe, Putin said: “I didn’t even know such a line existed. Gazprom reported that this pipeline is not as well protected as our Nord Stream pipelines.” saying.
Explaining that the line could have been damaged for reasons such as a technological problem or an earthquake, Putin said: “Frankly, I don’t know, let them investigate. “Anyway, they don’t allow us to participate in any research.” he said.
Putin also reacted to some European officials blaming Russia for damage to the line, saying these accusations were made to divert attention from “terrorist attacks carried out by Western countries” against the Nord Stream lines. (AA)
