Hamas also kidnapped foreign workers in Israel: ‘This is not our war’

Families of Thais kidnapped by Hamas rebelled: this is not our war

During the Hamas raid, 14 Thai workers were taken hostage and smuggled to Gaza, and 20 Thais were killed, creating an uproar in the East Space country.

Speaking to Al Jazeera television, Thai Kanyarat Suriyasri said he recognized his wife, who was among those held by Hamas militants during the raid, by the Buddhist tattoo on her shoulder. Kanyarat claimed that her husband, Owat Suriyasri, 40, was one of the 14 Thais kidnapped by Hamas: “We want Hamas to release the Thais. We have nothing to do with this. They went to Israel to work to support their families. “They all have children,” she said.

Owat Suriyasri was claimed to be from Owat, the poorest region in the country, like almost 300,000 Thais working in agriculture in Israel. Israel signed an agreement with Thailand in 2011 for the employment of foreign workers.

Thais rank first among foreigners killed in the bloody Hamas attack. According to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at least 20 Thais lost their lives in attacks against Israel.

Among the preferred destinations for Thai migrant workers, Israel ranks third after South Korea and Taiwan.
