Turks flock to Germany: huge increase in asylum seekers
Flights to Germany via Eastern Europe and the Balkan route continue unabated.
The number of people seeking asylum has doubled compared to last year. Until the beginning of October, 801,459 people went to the EU and Switzerland seeking asylum. Additionally, figures for October, November and December have not yet been announced. It was stated that more illegal influxes were expected in October. This figure is expected to exceed one million across the EU by the end of the year.
51 THOUSAND TURKISH ASYLUM APPLICANTS TO GERMANY
In September 2023 alone, the number of people who applied for asylum in Germany was 27,889. The increase compared to September of the previous year is approximately 50 percent: the number of people who went to Germany between January and September and applied for asylum reached 233 thousand 744. This exceeded the increase across the EU and corresponded to a increase of 74 percent.
It is expected that by the end of the year the figure will exceed 300,000. It was announced that 17 percent of the asylum seekers were Turkish.
This shows that 51,000 Turks applied for asylum in Germany in one year. This figure is expected to exceed 60,000 by the end of the year. Turks seeking asylum are given colored bands on their arms depending on their destination and receive a monthly salary of 500 euros until their asylum is accepted. 82,000 Turks have applied for asylum in the last 10 years and, with these figures, it seems that the number of asylum seekers will increase by at least 10.
INCREASE IN ASYLUM APPLICANTS FROM COUNTRY TO COUNTRY…
This figure surpassed the migration and refugee influx in 2016. The largest increase occurred in Latvia with 168 percent and Estonia with 119 percent. Germany followed with 74 percent. It is believed that those who went to Latvia and Estonia planned to somehow reach Germany through Belarus.
While the increase in immigrants to Italy was 63 percent, the increase in the number of people arriving in France was 37 percent.
SYRIANS, TURKS, AFGANS…
27 percent of those who arrived in Germany were Syrians, 17 percent were Turks and 16 percent were Afghans. These; They are followed by citizens of countries such as Eritrea, Iraq, Iran and Somalia.
Entry into Germany from Eastern Europe continues. Smugglers send people they bring to Germany’s border countries into Germany by putting them in cars. Crowded groups are kidnapped in minibuses, and families or single people are kidnapped in cars by paying some money to their drivers. Smugglers now advertise on social media and guarantee they will kidnap people safely.
GERMANS ARE REACTIVE
The people, who consider the measures taken by Germany on the border insufficient, are reacting. Although dozens of fugitives are captured every day in places like Görlitz and the Austrian border, the number of those who are not captured or who enter the country in some other way is unknown.
