Time’s up… Hamas launches attack on Ashkelon
Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, announced that it had given residents of the Israeli city of Asqalan until 5:00 p.m. local time to leave the area.
When thousands of civilians left Ashkelon as a result of the warning, Hamas launched attacks. Once the deadline expired, numerous rockets were launched from the blockaded Gaza Strip towards the city of Ashkelon. Clashes were also reported to have occurred in the region.
Most of the rockets launched by Palestinian groups from Gaza were destroyed in the air by the Israeli “Iron Dome” system. So far the Israeli authorities have not made any statement.
Qassam spokesperson “Ebu Ubeyde”, in his statement on his Telegram account, said: “In response to the crimes committed by the enemy in various parts of the Gaza Strip by deporting our people and forcing them to flee their homes, we give the residents of the city of Asqalan time to leave before 5:00 p.m. this afternoon.
