WSJ: Iran is behind the Hamas attack… ‘The door has been opened to a major war in the Middle East’
The Wall Street Journal, a major American publication, wrote that Iran was behind Hamas’s most extensive attack on Israel since the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Hamas and Hezbollah sources in Lebanon claimed that the Revolutionary Guard Iranian gave final approval to the surprise attack at the meeting in Beirut on Monday.
It was claimed that Revolutionary Guard officials have been planning the attack alongside Hamas since August and plans to infiltrate Israeli territory by land, air and sea have been discussed in detail.
The attacks launched on Saturday by Palestinian armed groups in Israeli territory had a shocking effect.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had previously said there was no indication that Tehran was involved in the attack. Mumud Miradi, one of the Hamas executives, also noted that command of the operation is solely in the hands of the Palestinians.
ATTACK PLAN ON THREE FRONTS AGAINST ISRAEL
A European official advising the Syrian government claimed that Iranian commanders managed the Aqsa Flood operation together with Hamas and Hezbollah. According to sources, Tehran is planning a comprehensive war with Hezbollah to attack Israel in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as on the Lebanese border in the north.
The Wall Street Journal commented that Iran’s direct intervention in the conflict could lead to a larger war in the Middle East. The news also noted that many officials in Israel called for “let’s hit Iran” after the attacks.
‘THE GOAL IS TO PREVENT THE NORMALIZATION OF ISRAEL-SAUDI ARABIA’
Many media outlets stressed that the latest attacks have significantly changed the balance in the region by destroying the myth of “Israel’s invincibility” and that Israelis question current security.
Many Iranian officials announced their support for Operation Aqsa Flood on Saturday. Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi also met with leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Hamas and Hezbollah sources claimed that Tehran took an active role in planning and financing the attacks. The sources stressed that the objective of the operation was to deal a blow to Israel at a time when opposition to Benjamin Netanyahu’s government was growing and to prevent normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
Many political experts point out that Tehran sees Israel’s normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab countries and peace agreements with Egypt and Jordan as a major threat to itself.
