German statement on the Israeli-Palestinian crisis
German Chancellor Scholz, in his statement to the Prime Minister, said: “Hundreds of Israelis were killed. Homes of innocent civilians were invaded, men, women and children were killed indiscriminately and dozens of people were taken hostage in the Gaza Strip. “These actions are barbaric and cannot be justified in any way.” saying.
Stating that he spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today at noon, Scholz stated that he expressed to him that Germany supports Israel decisively and without hesitation in the face of this terrible attack.
Stating that the news they had received from Israel since yesterday had deeply moved them, Chancellor Scholz emphasized that Israel’s security is a state matter for Germany and said: “This is especially true in such difficult times and we will act accordingly. “Israel has the right to defend itself from barbaric attacks, to protect its citizens and to pursue aggressors.” he said.
Scholz stated that he will also meet today with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who “is trying to mediate and reduce tension in this difficult situation,” and said they would be happy to support Egypt on this issue.
Scholz also stated that he will have extensive phone calls with US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to discuss the situation.
“WE CONDEMN IT IN THE STRONGEST WAY”
Scholz stated that they “condemn Hamas’ actions in the strongest possible way,” but above all, we are doing everything possible to prevent this attack from becoming a fire that will have incalculable consequences for the entire region. “We warn everyone not to incite or spread terrorism in this situation.” saying.
Noting that the Israeli flag was raised today on the buildings of the Presidency, the Federal Assembly and the Prime Minister, Scholz stressed that these are all visible signs of unwavering support for the State of Israel.
Noting that they have increased protection for Jewish and Israeli institutions in Germany, Scholz also criticized the celebration of attacks against Israel in his country, saying: “We do not accept the celebration of disgusting attacks against Israel on our streets. “The suffering, destruction and death of so many people cannot be a cause for joy for anyone.” he said.
GERMANY DECIDED TO REVIEW SUPPORT FOR PALESTINE
On the other hand, the German government decided to review the development and infrastructure aid it had previously provided to the Palestinian territories and suspended payments.
Minister of Development Svenja Schulze made the following statements in her written statement following the latest developments in Israel:
“We stand in full solidarity with Israel at this difficult time. We have always been sensitive to ensuring that the support we provide to the people of the Palestinian territories serves peace. However, these attacks against Israel are a terrible turning point. We will therefore review our entire commitment to the Palestinian territories. In this review, we want to discuss how we can better serve peace in the region and Israel’s security through our development projects, especially with Israel. “We will also coordinate with our international partners to move forward in the most coordinated manner possible.”
To date, Germany has provided support for water supply and waste facilities, health systems, food security and job creation for those living in the Palestinian territories.
Germany’s development commitments already amount to 250 million euros.
