Major damage in Herat, hit by earthquake
The statement from the Herat Governorate states that the consecutive earthquakes that occurred around 11:00 local time shook Herat and its districts.
The statement states that the earthquake caused severe damage and that detailed information will be shared later.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes of 6.3, 5.5, 4.7 and 6.3, 5.9, 4, 6.3, 5, 9 and 4 in the province of Herat, located in western Afghanistan, on the border with Iran. Many earthquakes occurred with magnitudes 6, 4.8 and then 4.9.
Due to earthquakes felt in neighboring countries such as Iran and Turkmenistan, many residents of Herat left their homes in panic and took to the streets.
On the other hand, power was cut and communication lines were cut in the Zindecan district and part of central Herat. (AA)
