Nobel Peace Prize winner announced
The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize was officially announced today… Iranian women’s rights advocate Nergis Muhammedi was deemed worthy of this year’s prize.
The Nobel Prize Committee’s statement said: “This year’s prize was awarded to Nergis Muhammedi, who fought against the oppression of women in Iran and fought for the rights and freedoms of all people.”

Muhammadi is being held in Evin prison.
Muhammadi, known as one of Iran’s best-known human rights activists, fought to improve women’s rights and abolish the death penalty.
Muhammedi, held in Evin prison in Tehran, was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Muhammedi, who served as vice president of the Center for Human Rights Defenders led by Shirin Ebadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003, became the 19th woman to win these awards, which have been awarded for 122 years.
While it was announced that the award ceremony would take place in Oslo, the capital of Norway, on December 10, Muhammedi also received the prize of approximately $1 million.
