AP Draft: Air Baggage Rules Will Change
The European Parliament (EP) adopted the draft resolution, which is a recommendation for the standardization of airline hand luggage rules.
The draft accepted at the EP General Assembly session in Strasbourg stated that a single standard on baggage dimensions and prices was necessary.
The bill points out that citizens are concerned about the different rules regarding their luggage on airlines and that a solution to this issue should be found within the framework of EU law.
The bill states that different rules regarding hand luggage cause hidden charges on airlines and make price comparison difficult, and notes that incompatibility of rules especially affects passengers transferring between different airlines. .
The bill also reminded that the Commission must fully implement the relevant decisions of the European Court of Justice when reviewing EU air services legislation.
SEAT DETERMINATION FEE
The bill recalls that the European Court of Justice had already ruled that hand luggage must meet reasonable requirements in terms of weight and dimensions and that no additional fees may be charged for hand luggage, and highlights the importance to prepare new legislation taking into account other hidden costs, such as seat determination fees.
The EU aims to eliminate confusion among passengers and avoid hidden charges by standardizing airline hand luggage rules. (AA)
