A move by Greece that will increase tension: Israeli missiles are being deployed on the Turkish border
News recently came from Athens that may disturb the spring atmosphere in relations between Turkey and Greece.
Greek media wrote that Athens plans to place Spike missiles purchased from Israel on the Turkish border.
Last April, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced that an agreement had been signed to sell Spike anti-tank missiles to Greece. The statement states that the deal is worth $400 million.
The Greek government statement said: “The purchase of Spike NLOS for the needs of the Armed Forces was approved and information on the progress of other weapons programs was provided.”
According to the latest news from the Greek media, Apache helicopters with missiles and Greek troops will be deployed on the Turkish border. While the debate over arming the Aegean islands has long raised tension between Turkey and Greece, it has been claimed that Athens plans to place missiles on the islands and the coast of Evros.
It is also expected to test missiles with a range of 35 kilometers. The Greek press commented that the new weapons would make a great contribution to Greece’s military capacity and deterrent power.
