Aliyev and Pashinyan to meet on October 5

Azerbaijan and Armenia will be one of the main items on the agenda of the third AST meeting to be held in Grenada, hosted by Spain, the country that holds the presidency of the European Union (EU).

According to information obtained from sources of the Spanish Prime Minister and the Coordination Office of the EU Presidency, it is stated that the meeting between Aliyev and Pashinyan.

THE EU WANTS TO BE A MEDIATOR

The same sources argued that the EU “does not want to be a mediator in resolving the problems between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but only wants to promote a permanent and just peace that protects national sovereignty and complies with international law.”

On the other hand, Spain, which wants to hold the AST meeting, the first of which was held in Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, on October 6, 2022, and the second in Moldova on June 1, within the mandate of the EU, has set the date for the EU Council meeting to be held in Grenada on 6 October. He chose the day before their informal meeting.

It was noted that after a brief opening speech at the AST, which is expected to be attended by 50 countries at the level of Heads of State or Government, three round tables will be held under the title “Digitalization, energy and ecological transition and” Multilateralism: the political future of Europe” and numerous bilateral meetings will be held between leaders.

THERE WILL BE NO FLAG

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is also expected to attend the AST.

Although Spain does not officially recognize Kosovo, like EU members Greece, the Greek Cypriot administration of Southern Cyprus, Romania and Slovakia, invited it to the AST meeting. It was stated that to avoid a possible diplomatic problem, Spain will not place flags or names of countries on the meeting tables, repeating the practice of previous summits and writing only the name of the corresponding leader.

An official of the Spanish Prime Minister said: “Shaking hands with the representative of Kosovo does not mean knowing that country, it is just a matter of respect.” he made the assessment of it.

The AST meeting will end with the leaders’ visit to the Alhambra and a dinner.

The EU enlargement process, Europe’s strategic autonomy, the war between Russia and Ukraine, defense and the problem of irregular migration in Italy’s request will be discussed, he reported. (AA)
