Sisi’s decision for the third term
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi addressed the public in the closing speech of the three-day conference called “Homeland Story”, held in the new administrative capital built east of the capital Cairo.
Stating that he decided to run again in the presidential elections, Sisi called on the Egyptian people to participate intensely in the elections to be held in December 2023.
Inviting the public to make these elections the beginning of true political pluralism, Sisi stressed the importance of Egyptians showing their will to the world by going to the polls.
Sisi, who became president in the elections held in 2014 after the military coup in Egypt, in which only 40 percent of the people voted, was re-elected with 92 percent of the votes in the elections held in March 2018. .
In 2019, the Egyptian parliament approved the constitutional amendment that paved the way for President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to remain in office until 2030.
Said article of the Constitution was modified as follows:
“The current President’s term ends 6 years after the announcement of his election as president in 2018 and he can be re-elected once again.” (AA)
