The first session of the impeachment investigation against Biden was held
The first session of the impeachment investigation against US President Joe Biden was held. The hearing was convened by the U.S. House Oversight and Accountability Committee. During the session, which lasted more than six hours, there were sometimes moments of tension between Republicans and Democrats.
CLAIMS OF THE REPUBLICANS
Republican members focused on allegations that Biden’s relatives, especially his son Hunter Biden, gained privileges in businesses involving foreigners by “abusing their power” while he was vice president. Democrats, for their part, argued that the accusations were “baseless” and accused Republicans of occupying the agenda.
Republicans also raised the allegation that Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, who was collaborating with a Romanian national investigated in the fight against corruption in Ukraine, received money from this person during the same period. Democrats argued that these accusations were also baseless.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Comer announced that he will issue an order to inform Congress about the banking records of Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and his brother James Biden.
HOW WILL THE IMPEACHMENT PROCESS PROCEED?
The United States Constitution allows the president to be removed from office if he is tried and found guilty.
Once the impeachment investigation file is prepared in the House of Representatives, the file is sent to the Senate. An impeachment trial is underway in the Senate. If two-thirds of the 100-seat Senate (at least 67 members) find the American president guilty at trial, the president is removed from office.
It seems likely that Biden’s impeachment investigation file will be approved in the House of Representatives. However, Democrats are said to have an advantage in the Senate. (AA)
