A law is passed to prevent the Turks: controversial step by Germany
Prime Minister Olaf Scholz intervened in the asylum procedure, creating a crisis in the German government and sparking a conflict between Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and Foreign Minister Baerbock.
Scholz ordered to complete and tighten the EU Asylum Law, which Interior Minister Baerbock opposed.
The first objective of the law, which is expected to be enacted shortly with the EU agreement, is to prohibit “asylum for Turks.” According to the information received, the details of this article have begun to become clearer.
FIRST STEP: DEMAND FOR POLITICAL PERSECUTION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
Asylum processes will be made more difficult for Turkish citizens coming from Turkey, a country considered safe. Currently, according to official data, the acceptance rate of Turkish citizens is around 20 percent. Turks will no longer be able to apply for asylum “allegedly due to political persecution”, and if they do, they will not be accepted by German authorities.
Recently, the refugee issue has been at the top of Germany’s agenda.
The article states: “Citizens of Turkey, India, Tunisia, Serbia and Albania will not be granted the right to asylum where there is no war or major humanitarian crisis in their country. “The main criteria for asylum will be issues such as war, human tragedy, civil war and flight from terrorism,” he said.
SECOND STEP: DETENTION AT THE BORDER
A second phase is being considered to prevent a further influx of refugees and illegal entries without registration.
Consequently, camps will be established at the “EU external borders.” The people who arrive will be taken to these fields and their identity will be determined.
Here the situation of those who want to apply for asylum in Germany or another country will be examined and, where appropriate, they will be allowed to cross to Germany. This plan, which was included on the agenda in 2015, will be tightened.
WHO WILL BE GRANTED THE RIGHT OF ASYLUM?
Those who come from Turkey and prove that there is a political process against them will be granted asylum. Those granted asylum will be distributed to various EU countries. States that do not want this will pay 20,000 euros in compensation for each refugee they do not welcome.
According to the plan, these centers at the external borders of the EU will be detention centers and illegals will remain in these centers for an average of two weeks. Families with children will receive special treatment. They will be provided with more comfortable camping conditions.
Asylum facilities will continue to be provided to those coming from Syria, Sudan and Afghanistan.
THE GOVERNMENT IS IN DIFFICULTY
The illegal immigrant crisis has been widely discussed in Germany lately. According to the latest polls, trust in the government has declined and the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has surpassed 21 percent.
Calls are growing from all walks of life in the country to stop the influx of illegal immigrants as soon as possible. According to the survey results, the current government would lose its majority if elections were held.
The vote of the SPD, Prime Minister Scholz’s party, is 17.5 percent, and the vote of the Greens, its great partner, is 13.5 percent. The total loss on them exceeded 10 points.
The vote of the junior partner FDP was 5.5 percent. The right-wing Christian Democrats receive 27 percent of the vote and the far-right AfD 21.5 percent. The Far Left Party is around 5 percent.
