Alleged coup attempt in Armenia: 8 people arrested

In Armenia, eight people were arrested on charges of attempting to seize power by force and assassinate the Prime Minister and members of the government.

According to the official news agency of Armenia, Armenpress, as a result of the operations of the Armenian National Security Service and employees of the Investigation Bureau, 8 people, 7 of whom were anonymous members of the “Patriotic Society Organization Military ‘Crusaders'”, were attacked by members of the Armenian Government and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who were determined to have reached an agreement to seize power using the weapons and ammunition they had as criminal tools.

AMMUNITION FOUND

It was determined that these people were preparing to seize power by force, assuming the powers of the government in a manner not provided for in the constitution.

During the searches, communication devices, communication jamming devices, weapons and ammunition were found on these people.

The people in question were detained by employees of the National Security Service and the Investigation Office.

CLAIM FROM THE ARMENIAN PRESS: THE FORMER MAYOR IS DETAINED

In the Armenian press it was stated that one of the detainees was Albert Bazeyan, former mayor of Yerevan and former vice-president of the social organization “Union of Volunteer Guards”. Bazeyan was allegedly accused of plotting the assassination of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
