He lived hell for 25 years in a small room
A woman whose family had been imprisoned in a room for 25 years in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, was rescued.
A woman named “Nikbaht”, who was kept locked up by her brothers in a dilapidated room for 25 years in their home in the Çar Kale Vezir Abad neighborhood of Kabul, was freed after neighbors informed Taliban forces. Nikbaht, aged between 45 and 50, who lived an unfortunate life even though her name means “good fortune”, was rescued as a result of the operation carried out by Taliban forces at her house.
Nikbaht was treated at the Vezir-i Akbar Khan hospital in central Kabul.
The police chief of Kabul’s 10th district, Abdul Rahim Ecmal, made the following statements on the issue:
“Following notification from the local population, we learned that a woman was held in her house for 25 years and we immediately organized an operation. Her brother cruelly kept him in a room for 25 years and used violence. Claiming that the woman had psychological problems, she hid her in a room where not even an animal could live. We also arrested the woman’s four brothers. According to her brother, this woman married and separated from her years ago and took refuge in her brothers’ house, and since she couldn’t get along with her brother’s wife, her brother did too. inflicted such cruelty on him. As the woman has not seen the light of day for years, she has become in such a mood that she is afraid of everyone she sees. “We will also ensure the safety of the woman and treat her.”
A ROOM LIKE A RUINS
The approximately 10 square meter room where Nikbaht stays looks like a ruin. The inside of the room is full of stones and garbage. Almost the entire ceiling is covered in cobwebs. The strong smell that surrounds the room, where there are piles of food remains and feces, is noticeable as soon as you enter.
On the other hand, it was learned that Nikbaht was given food in a dirty container through a hole under the bedroom window, that Nikbaht had not washed for many years and lived in the same clothes.
The head of the neighborhood, Hadım Hüseyin Hüseyni, stated that the family in question does not have close ties with the residents of the neighborhood and pointed out that people do not go or enter this house. Hüseyni explains how they found out about the imprisoned Nikbaht: “The children who came to this house said that there was a ‘madman’ here. We came and saw him up close and saw that he was not ‘crazy’, he was in prison. “We then informed the regional authorities.”
IT HAS NOT SEEN THE LIGHT OF THE SUNLIGHT FOR YEARS
Hüseyni stated that when he saw Nikbaht he had difficulty communicating with him, but he understood the questions he was asking and realized that he had not seen sunlight for years.
Rüya Behzad, one of the doctors at Vezir-i Ekber Han Hospital, said the woman was taken to emergency care and that physical therapy would be started. Behzad said: “When she first arrived, she was not conscious and could not speak. Her condition is improving now. “She can talk, eat and sit,” she said.
Nikbaht’s brother, Gulam Sahi, who imprisoned him, said in his statement to the press that he “regretted” what had happened. (AA)
