The far-right Wagensveld tore the Holy Quran in front of the Turkish embassy

In the Netherlands, Edwin Wagensveld, leader of the far-right movement European Patriotic Organization Against the Islamization of the West (Pegida), tore up the Holy Quran in front of the Turkish embassy in The Hague.

During the day-long protests in The Hague, Wagensveld tore up the Holy Quran in front of the embassies in The Hague of Pakistan, Indonesia and Denmark, as well as Turkey.

During his protest outside the Turkish embassy in The Hague, Wagensveld threw the pages he tore from the Quran to the ground and stepped on it, demanding that the Quran he tore last month be removed from the embassy.

Wagensveld also insulted the Turks and Turkey and thanked the police who protected him while he tore up the Koran.

Türkiye’S REACTION: WE CURSE THE ATTACKS ON OUR HOLY BOOK

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to the provocation. The Ministry’s written statement is as follows:

– “We condemn in the strongest terms the despicable attacks against our holy book, the Holy Quran, carried out in front of the Embassies of some member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, including our Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands. today (September 23).

– We condemn the spread of these provocative attacks, whose objective is to humiliate our religion and its believers, in European countries, since they are tolerated and these acts of hatred are allowed under the pretext of freedom of expression.

– Now the countries where the attacks take place must take effective measures against these provocations, which the United Nations accepts as religious hatred and a violation of international law.

– We call on the Dutch authorities, with whom we took action against these attacks, to take the necessary measures against the perpetrator of the incident and take precautions to prevent these atrocious incidents from being repeated.

“Turkey will continue its fight against this sick, hate-based mentality with determination on all platforms.”
