Guterres: The gates of hell have opened with the climate crisis

UN Secretary-General Guterres spoke at the UN Climate Summit held on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly.

Stating that the summit’s focus was on solutions to the climate crisis, Guterres said: “Humanity has opened the gates of hell.” he said.

Drawing attention to the effects of the “terrible heat” on the world, Guterres said farmers suffered due to flooding, sweltering heat caused illness and people had to relocate due to fires.

“WE ARE FACING A DANGEROUS AND UNSTABLE SITUATION”

Guterres stressed that if the climate does not change, the world faces a “dangerous and unstable” situation with increases in temperature.

Noting that global temperature rise can still be limited to 1.5 degrees, Guterres said: “We can still build a world with clean air, green jobs and affordable clean energy for all.” saying.

Calling on world leaders to reduce emissions, Guterres said: “The transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy is happening, but we are decades behind schedule.” saying. (AA)
