Three accusations against Biden’s son
Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, was accused by a federal prosecutor of lying during a gun purchase and possessing a gun while addicted to drugs.
In the indictment prepared by special counsel David Weiss against Hunter Biden, a total of three charges were brought against Biden, two of which were making false statements when purchasing a firearm in 2018 and one for illegal possession of a firearm. while he was addicted to drugs.
The first two counts carry a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years, and the third count carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
Under US federal law, making a false statement on a gun purchase application form or possessing a firearm as a drug user is considered a crime.
THE AGREEMENT WITH PROSECUTORS WAS NOT APPROVED
According to Delaware District Court records that surfaced on June 20, Hunter Biden was reported to have reached a deal with prosecutors on charges of “failure to pay federal income tax and unlawful possession of a weapon.” and that he would plead guilty.
However, when Biden appeared before a judge in Delaware on July 27, the judge did not approve the deal he had made with prosecutors, expressing concern about the connection between the tax crimes and crimes related to gun licenses.
US Attorney General Merrick Garland also appointed David Weiss as special prosecutor on August 11, giving him broader powers over investigations into Hunter Biden.
