US sanctions decision: one Turk and five Turkish companies are also on the list
Speaking to the British news agency Reuters, a senior US Treasury Department official announced that US President Joe Biden’s administration decided to impose sanctions on five companies and a Turkish citizen in Turkey.
Stating that the decision will be announced today, the official also stated that this company and the Turkish citizen were accused of violating sanctions against Russia.
It was also claimed that the aforementioned company and the person’s shipping and trading companies helped break sanctions against ships affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Reuters news agency stated that this measure occurred at a very critical time for relations between the United States and Turkey. The agency noted that the United States is expected to open parliament to approve Sweden’s membership in NATO.
US OFFICIAL: “WE HAVE SHARED OUR CONCERNS FOR 18 MONTHS”
Recently, many high-ranking US officials, including US Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, came to Turkey and had contacts. Reuters interpreted these visits as “a campaign to prevent any Turkish company from helping Russia.”
“Over the past 18 months, we have shared our concerns with the Turkish government and the private sector and informed them about the significant risks of doing business with institutions and organizations that we have sanctioned in connection with the Russia war,” the official said, who spoke to Reuters and did not reveal his name, he said.
While it was stated that the US Treasury Department would impose sanctions on Margiana İnşaat Dış Ticaret and Demirci Bilişim Ticaret Sanayi, it was also stated that sanctions would be imposed on the company called Denkar Ship Construction. It was stated that sanctions will be imposed on CTL Limited together with ID Ship Agency and its owner İlker Doğruyol.
