War crisis in beauty pageant in Ukraine: ‘pro-Russia’ candidates were disqualified
The Miss Ukraine beauty pageant to be held in Ukraine this year has been overshadowed by the war that has been going on for more than a year and a half.
After the candidates were announced, complaints abounded on the Internet that some of the beauties had connections to Russia. Many people criticized Ukrainian beauties’ posts with Russians and Russian oligarchs on social media and argued that this went against “patriotism.”

Ukrainian comedian Andrey Luzan claimed that some contestants have pro-Russian views. It was noted that model Kseniya Magera, one of these names, was friends with people close to the Russian administration and lived in Moscow, while Irina Pilayeva had close relations with Russia.
Luzan claimed that one of the contestants, Ekaterina Chuvaşova, was the daughter of a Russian agent. Three candidates from Donetsk and Luhansk, where pro-Russian governments are located, were not allowed to run.
Oksana Magera was also one of the contestants mentioned in the crisis.
After investigations, the contest organizers disqualified 3 candidates because they were considered “pro-Russian.” Both candidates announced that they were withdrawing from the contest.
The organizers said: “During the ethics committee review, unethical situations were detected regarding some candidates. For this reason, we eliminated 3 candidates from the competition. “Thank you for the information we received,” he said. The names of the disqualified beauties were not revealed.
