The image of the soldier supporting the rescue teams caused a stir
As the region tried to recover after the heavy rains and floods that affected Greece in recent weeks, a shared photo raised eyebrows on the country’s agenda…
In the photographs, one of the Greek soldiers is seen helping the elderly rescued from the disaster with zodiac boats, throwing himself on the ground and preventing the elderly from stepping in the mud. When the Chief of the Greek General Staff, Konstantinos Floros, shared this image, he received a lot of recognition on social media.
OTHER DISASTER SURVIVORS ALSO STOOD ON THEM
Many social media users appreciated the anonymous soldier’s actions. Greek media announced that the soldier served in the 32nd Marine Brigade. Some officials, who said they were working with the unnamed soldier, said: “He has a very high sense of duty. “He went to private schools where commandos were trained,” he said.
Other soldiers who spoke to Greek media and who were there when the incident occurred said: “This photo doesn’t say it all. This photo was taken as the fourth elderly victim passed by. “The disaster victims who preceded him also trampled on him,” he said.
The region was claimed to be flooded with depths of up to 3 meters occurring in some places, and the muddy nature of the region made walking difficult.
