Secret documents examined: more than a thousand cases of sexual abuse in the Swiss Catholic Church
It was determined that there have been 1,002 cases of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in Switzerland since the mid-20th century.
Researchers at the University of Zurich examined secret documents published since the 1950s.
Almost all sexual abuse was committed by adult men and three-quarters of the cases involved minors, according to the study.
According to research, 56 percent of people who experience sexual abuse are adult men and boys, and 39 percent are women and girls. It was shared that the gender of the remaining 5 percent could not be determined.
30 percent of sexual abuse cases occurred in schools and homes.
“THE EVIDENCE WAS DESTROYED”
Investigators stated that they continued to collect information and documents on the subject, but many documents were destroyed to eliminate evidence.
“THE VISIBLE SIDE OF THE ICEBERG”
Prof. who conducted the study. Monika Dommann and Prof. Marietta Meier emphasized that “the detected cases are the tip of the iceberg.” (AA)
