Notable step: Russian cars confiscated
The Commission of the European Union (EU) announced that the vehicles or personal effects of those arriving from Russia to member countries will be confiscated.
The spokesman for the European Commission, Daniel Sheridan Ferrie, at the daily press conference held in Brussels, recalled that the EU has so far accepted 11 packages of sanctions against Russia and explained that they intend to deprive Russia of the income it needs to finance war.
Ferrie recalled that within the framework of the sanctions, imports of certain products from Russia were prohibited. Noting that the confiscation of Russian tourists’ cars upon entering EU countries is not new, Ferrie stressed that this ban has existed for a long time.
Ferrie noted that the current sanctions have not changed, saying: “We have a ban on importing many products from Russia. These products are on our sanctions list. “The cars are subject to an import ban and cannot enter the EU,” she said. Ferrie stressed that customs authorities in EU countries must fully comply with the rules, especially regarding cars and valuable goods.
According to EU sanctions, Russians cannot take various products such as cars, cosmetics, computers, smartphones, precious stones and furs with them during their tourist visits to the union countries. These products are confiscated by EU customs. (AA)
