Kremlin: Putin will have no rivals if he becomes a candidate
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that if Russian President Vladimir Putin decides to run in the 2024 presidential election, there will be no one who can compete with him.
Peskov stated that Putin has not yet officially announced his candidacy, but if he decides to run, it is clear that the competition will be limited and that Putin will receive strong support from the Russian people.
Putin, the most powerful name in Russian politics in the last 20 years, has recently been the target of harsh criticism both in the world and at home for the invasion of Ukraine. The rebellion of the Wagner mercenary group in June also damaged Putin’s reputation.
Polls still show Putin as Russia’s most popular politician.
According to a poll conducted in August by the Levada Center, support for the Russian leader was 80 percent. This rate was lower in the period before the Ukraine crisis. The survey also found that almost 70 percent of the population supports the invasion of Ukraine.
