The EU does not recognize the legal framework of the elections in Karabakh
The written statement from the office of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, reports on the EU’s attitude towards the elections held today in Karabakh.
The statement said: “The EU reiterates that it does not recognize the constitutional and legal framework in which these elections were held.”
It was highlighted that the EU believes that “it is important and possible for Karabakh Armenians to unite around de facto leadership” and that it is determined to support results-oriented talks with Azerbaijan.
“WE REPEAT OUR CONCERNS”
The statement states that Borrell spoke by phone with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov and said: “I reiterated my concerns about the humanitarian situation faced by Karabakh Armenians. Now there is a need to reopen the Lachin corridor. “Other roads like Aghdam can be opened as part of the solution, but they cannot be an alternative,” he said. (AA)
