2 thousand people detained in Holland

In The Hague, capital of the Netherlands, the environmental group Extinction Rebellion organized a climate action.

Protesters blocked the last stretch of the A12, the entrance to the city, causing traffic disruptions on connecting routes.

Protesters demanding an end to the use of oil, coal and gas criticized the government’s policy on fossil fuels.

Warning that the place where the protest took place “was declared a prohibited zone for demonstrations”, the police began to intervene against the activists two hours after the start of the protest.

Police, who sprayed pressurized water on protesters, detained around 2,000 people who did not leave the road and its surroundings despite warnings. The detainees were taken from the area on public buses.

Protesters said they will continue to block the last stretch of the main A12 road leading to parliament in The Hague every day until the government removes fossil subsidies.

In the statement made by the group Extinction Rebellion on the social media platform X, it was stated that at least 2 thousand people were detained. (AA)
