1,037 people lost their lives and many people were injured in the magnitude 7 earthquake that occurred last night in Morocco. The earthquake was also felt in neighboring Algeria and caused damage in some areas.

The Presidency of Algeria announced that it opened the country’s airspace to flights to transport humanitarian aid and wounded people to Morocco. The statement said: “Algeria’s high-level authorities decided to open the country’s airspace to flights to transport humanitarian aid and injured people to Morocco.”

The statement also notes that Algeria is “fully willing to provide humanitarian aid at the request of the Kingdom of Morocco and to use all material and humanitarian means in solidarity with the brother Moroccan people.”

In the morning, Algeria published a message of condolence and solidarity for the magnitude 7 earthquake that occurred in the neighboring country.

Algeria has closed its airspace to Morocco for two years, with which it decided to break diplomatic relations on August 24, 2021.
