Wildfires still not under control in Canada
According to a government statement, 232,000 people were evacuated because of the fires, following 284 instructions given. Among those evacuated, 59,000 people were left homeless.
The statement from the Ministry of Natural Resources indicated that 791 of the 1,052 forest fires that continued throughout the country could not be controlled. “Recent estimates indicate the possibility of an increase in wildfires in central Canada, from eastern Alberta to central Ontario,” said Michael Martin, the ministry’s director general.
The ministry noted that this year there were 6,174 fires across the country. It has been reported that approximately 165,000 square kilometers of area burned in the country this season and the fires continue to spread. (AA)
