For the first time in Belgian history

The Royal Belgian Meteorological Institute reported that in the first week of September the air temperature in the country exceeded 30 degrees for 3 days in a row.

The head of the institute, David Dehenauw, stated that they measured the temperature above 25 degrees for 5 days in a row, 3 of which exceeded 30 degrees, so the necessary conditions were met to define a heat wave in Belgium.

YELLOW ALARM

A yellow alert was issued throughout the country due to the heat wave. It was recommended that especially older people not leave the house unless necessary and that the public consume plenty of fluids.

Meteorological officials expect the heat wave in the country to continue until the middle of next week. As of Tuesday or Wednesday, the temperature is expected to drop below 25 degrees.

The fact that it is so hot in September is considered an exception in Belgium. The heat wave was claimed to have been recorded in Belgium for the first time in September since record-keeping began.

Dehenauw stated that this is due to the high pressure found over Europe: “So we have been experiencing hot sunny weather for a long time. Next week the high pressure will move towards Eastern Europe and Russia. saying.

SEEN IN THE LAST 10 YEARS

Researchers from the Universities of Edinburgh, Exeter and Bristol reported in their study published last April that “extreme heat waves” were experienced in 41 of the 136 regions where the weather events were assessed, extending to all continents and that heat waves have been seen especially in the last 10 years.

The regions most at risk of extreme heat are the easternmost parts of Russia, Central America, Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, northwestern Argentina, the Australian state of Queensland, the Chinese regions of Beijing, Hebei and Tianjin, as well as Germany. , Belgium and Tianjin. It was listed as Western Europe, mainly the Netherlands. (AA)
