Barbie overcomes controversy over censorship

Barbie transcends the censorship controversy

The film “Barbie”, which the Lebanese Minister of Culture, Mohammed Murtaza, asked to be banned because “it is contrary to moral and religious values and promotes homosexuality”, overcame the censorship debate and was released.

The movie “Barbie”, which has been banned in some countries and there has been a lot of debate about whether it will be screened or not, met with audiences in some Lebanese movie theaters after its screening was postponed for a while.

On August 9, Murtaza demanded that the film in question be banned, claiming that it was inconsistent with Lebanese religious and moral values, that it highlighted homosexuality, and that it could harm family and marriage values.

The “Film Censorship Committee” of the Lebanese Ministry of the Interior and Economy held a meeting on August 11 to assess Murtaza’s application and announced that there were no grounds to ban Barbie.

Despite the committee’s decision, the release of Barbie, which caused controversy in the country, was delayed for a while.

Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, was among this year’s highly anticipated movies, opening on July 21.

Barbie had a big opening on July 21, taking in $155 million at the box office in its opening weekend in the United States, the highest opening ever for a female director.

The film’s global revenue reached $1.38 billion. (AA)
