While the Palamas and Kardiça regions were the settlements most affected by the flood catastrophe, the Larissa-Trikala-Kardiça triangle turned into a lake. In the images filmed in Palamas, the moments in which a mother tried to take her two children to a safe place in an inflatable life jacket generated fear.

Every 10 minutes we hear the sound of a house being demolished.” The authorities, for their part, announced that the helicopters could not participate in the search and rescue efforts due to weather conditions.

“We are all defenseless and in danger,” a local resident told Alpha TV. We asked for help all night but no one came. We are 60 in the building and this building is not solid at all, it is shaking. 300 people lived here, some left, others stayed. “We know that some people are missing,” he said.

Christos Michalakis, deputy governor of Trikalon, said: “Rescuers must arrive as soon as possible. A landslide comes from the mountain. Pieces of the mountain are coming our way,” he said. Konstantinos Noussios, deputy governor of Kardiça, said: “The priority is to rescue people trapped in their homes as soon as possible.”
