Debate grows over Niger’s nine-month transitional government
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced that news about “the proposal for a nine-month transitional government process for the military administration that took power in Niger on July 26” did not reflect the truth.
The ECOWAS statement states that the news in French and supposedly produced by AFP does not reflect the truth and should be considered “fake news”.
“The request of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government Authority is clear,” the statement said. The Nigerien military authorities must immediately restore constitutional order by releasing and reinstating President Mohammed Bazum.” The expression was used.
EXPLANATION BY THE PRESIDENT
Yesterday, Nigerian international and national media covered the news that “ECOWAS proposes a nine-month transition period for the military administration that took power in Niger”.
According to the Nigerian Presidency statement, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Head of State and also ECOWAS President, stated that Nigeria returned to civilian rule after a nine-month transition period initiated by the military head of state in 1999, and he said “If the military authorities of Niger are sincere, this will happen in the country. I see no reason why it should not happen again,” he said. (AA)
