Ecuador confused… Explosions cause panic
Molotov cocktails and bombings in the South American country Ecuador overnight caused widespread panic in the capital Quito.
After the explosion of the bomb placed on two vehicles in the city, a fire broke out as a result of attacks with Molotov cocktails in some places.
Authorities said the attacks came after riots in prisons the previous day. Prisoners in 6 prisons in the country took 57 guards and policemen hostage after the police search warrant.
The prison management was also targeted in one of the attacks. Police reported that armed gangs retaliated against police operations in prisons.
Clashes are frequent in Ecuadorian prisons between rival gangs linked to Colombia and Mexico. In the past two years, more than 430 prisoners have died as a result of prison violence.
