Guterres: Peace seems unlikely in Ukraine
UN Secretary General Guterres spoke to reporters at the UN building in New York.
Stating that September will be the month of “multilateral diplomacy”, Guterres said he will attend the African Climate Summit in Kenya, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-UN Summit in Indonesia, the of the G20 in India and the China Summit-. He announces the G77 Summit in Cuba.
Recalling that the 78th UN General Assembly will be held in New York, Guterres stated that he does not expect great progress in terms of peace in Ukraine.
“Hope is never lost, but peace in Ukraine does not seem possible in the near future,” Guterres said. I’d be lying if I said I think otherwise.” he said.
For this reason, the UN Secretary General stated that it is important to reduce the negative effects of the war in Ukraine.

Calling on countries across the region to build credible democratic institutions, Guterres also underlined the importance of the rule of law.
Guterres affirmed that the diplomatic efforts of different regional organizations of African origin should be supported.
At the same time, Guterres pointed out that the necessary conditions must be created to get to the root of the problems in Africa, stating that the most fundamental problem of the continent is insufficient development. (AA)
