Fires in Greece intensify again in some places
Although the fires in Alexandroupoli and Meriç in Greece were mostly brought under control on the 12th, the flames are rising again in the region.
After the fire intensified again in the forest area of Demirören (Sıdıro) and Yanören (Yannuli) villages, the Civil Protection Organization asked the residents of the village to move away from the area.
According to satellite data from the Forest Fire Observatory (EPADAP), the fire that started on August 19 in Alexandroupolis and Meriç burned more than 826,000 hectares until August 28. In the Rhodope province, which includes Komotini and its villages, the fire was observed to intensify again in the forest area near the village of Kalaycıdere.
To extinguish the fires in the region, teams from the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA), Germany, Bulgaria, Serbia, France, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Albania are supporting Greece. (AA)
