Clash between Colombian president and Argentine politician
Colombian President Gustavo Petro reacted to the words of far-right populist candidate Javier Milei, who won the most votes in Argentina’s August 13 primary election, against the Socialists, using an analogy with Hitler.
Milei’s question “What is socialist in essence? It’s garbage, it’s human excrement” on the X social media platform, Petro said, “Hitler was saying the same thing.” She used the phrase.
Petro maintains an extremely close diplomatic relationship with Argentina’s current left-wing president, Alberto Fernández. It is assessed that Milei’s victory may negatively affect relations between the two countries.
Speaking to her country’s RCN channel, Milei blamed socialism for Argentina’s economic crisis, saying: “Argentina’s decline begins with the adoption of socialist ideas, that is, Argentina’s true disease is called socialism. To the extent that a country adopts these ideas, it is clear what will happen, that is, that it will become poorer and poorer.
In Argentina’s August 13 primary election, Milei won a surprising 30 percent of the vote, the opposition bloc 28 percent and the ruling Peronist alliance 27 percent.
PROMISES MADE DISCUSSION
Milei, who has become a controversial political figure in Argentina in recent years, is on the agenda with his extremist views.
In reality, Milei, a former TV star and economist known for his far-right and populist views, advocates closing the Central Bank of Argentina and using the dollar as currency.
Milei also claims that climate change is not real, the sale of organs should be legal and weapons should be liberalized.
Due to the country’s economic problems, many voters are disappointed with the government. This is noted to have increased Milei’s popularity, especially among young voters.
General elections in Argentina will take place on October 22. The results of the primary elections held in the country are generally similar to the results of the general elections. (AA)
