Floods and storms hit Europe

Continued rains in Belgium caused flooding in the provinces of Liège, Namur, Luxembourg and Walloon Brabant. In some cities, shops and home basements were flooded, and streets were inundated.

Many roads were closed and traffic was severely affected. Emergency vehicles such as police and firefighters were seen submerged in the water.

The towns of Genappe, Nivelles, Ottignies and Wavre were severely affected in some areas by the flooding of the River Dyle in Walloon Brabant. Landslides occurred in the town of Seneffe, where the Samme River overflowed its banks.

In the statement of the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) it was announced that a yellow alert was issued for the provinces of Liège, Namur and Luxembourg. In Belgium, 37 people died in the floods that occurred in July 2021.

STORM WAS EFFECTIVE IN GERMANY

According to German media, the country’s police reported that in the camp near the city of Lindau, on the shores of Lake Constance, trees fell, 6 people were injured, 1 seriously, and 900 people from the area were evacuated.

In the city of Nordlingen it was recorded that objects that flew into the air due to strong winds caused injuries to 10 motorcyclists and 3 of them were hospitalized.

Authorities have warned that train services in Munich are likely to be stopped, as well as delays and cancellations on other services.

The German Weather Office (DWD) has warned that heavy rain and strong winds in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia could reach speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour.

Adverse weather conditions are expected to continue in the western and southern regions of Germany in the coming days. (AA)
