Said ‘I’m not going to quit’, it’s a mess

Luis Rubiales said “I am not resigning”

In Spain, reactions continue to grow against the president of the Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, who announced that he would not resign despite pressure for the performance of the World Champion Women’s Football Team in the championship celebrations.

Real Betis footballer Borja Iglesias, who plays for the Spanish Men’s National Team, announced on his social media account that he will not wear the national shirt until the Rubiales case is resolved.

Commenting on the RFEF President’s statements today as “Sad and disappointing”, Iglesias stated: “Wearing the national jersey was the greatest thing that has happened to me in my career. I don’t know if I’ll wear it again, but I decided not to wear the national jersey until things change and I see that such incidents don’t go unpunished. For a fairer, more humane and dignified football”.

Resignation from the NATIONAL WOMEN’S SOCCER BOARD

Another resignation came from Rafael del Amo, vice president of the RFEF and president of the National Women’s Soccer Board. Del Amo, who said that what Rubiales did was unacceptable and that he should resign, announced that he had resigned from the presidency of the National Women’s Soccer Board because it did not make sense to continue in the current situation.

In addition, the important players of the Women’s National Team Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati and Cata Coll, who sent messages from their social media accounts, also showed their reactions towards Rubiales.

Club Barcelona, in a written statement, highlighted that the behavior of the RFEF president during the celebrations of the Women’s Soccer World Cup was completely inappropriate and unfortunate, and maintained that Rubiales’ statements today were “inappropriate”.

The Spanish Government has announced that it will go to the Arbitration Court for Sport requesting the dismissal of Rubiales through the Higher Sports Council (CSD), under the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

His MOVEMENTS REACTED

During the medal ceremony and post-match celebrations in Sydney, the Spanish Women’s Soccer Team, which became world champions for the first time in its history by beating England 1-0 in the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on August 20, received some Reactions from the president of the RFEF Rubiales.

Rubiales, who made inappropriate movements from the stands during the show of joy after Spain’s victory, then kissed Spanish soccer player Jenni Hermoso on the lips at the medal ceremony.

With the support of politicians, the press and non-governmental organizations, Hermoso demanded that Rubiales receive an exemplary sentence after the incident.

When announcing that he would not resign at today’s extraordinary meeting of the RFEF General Assembly, Rubiales had described the moment of kissing Hermoso as “an act of illusion, consent and response of the celebration.” (AA)
