Denmark Proposes Law to Stop Quran Burning
The Danish government will prepare a bill that will make it illegal to burn copies of the Koran in public places to ease rising tensions with many Muslim countries.
“The government will propose a law that will prohibit the misuse of religious objects important to religious communities,” Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said at a press conference.
Hummelgaard stated: “With the proposed law, the burning of the Koran, the Bible or the Torah in public places will be punishable.”
While there have been many acts of burning or damaging the Qur’an in Sweden and Denmark in recent weeks, these acts have provoked a strong reaction from Muslims and calls have been made to governments to ban them.
