Niger has allowed Burkina Faso and Mali to enter its borders in the face of a possible military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In the statement read by the Deputy Secretary General of the Nigerien Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oumarou Ibrahim Sidi, on state television, it is stated that he is satisfied with the signing of the agreement that authorizes Burkina Faso and Mali to intervene in the territory of Niger . in case of attack on security forces.
Mali’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop and Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister Olivia Rouamba visited Niamey yesterday and met with General Abdurrahmane Tchiani, leader of the transitional government called the National Council for the Protection of the Homeland (CNSP).
Burkina Faso and Mali, where the military administrations are in command, had previously declared in a joint statement that they were with Niger against the military operation that ECOWAS planned to launch to change the course of the coup in Niger. The statement warned that any military intervention against Niger would amount to waging war against Burkina Faso and Mali.
The two countries had sent “Super Tucano” type fighter jets to Niger in case of military intervention. (AA)
