Fire in Europe: many countries fight against the flames

Five-day fires threatening settlements in the Alexandroupolis region of Greece have not been brought under control due to strong winds. The Egnatia highway has been closed this morning due to the fire, which has also affected Meriç and Rhodope, in western Thrace.
The fires, which affect the whole country, continue in more than 60 points from Maritsa to the northwest of Athens. The fire that broke out on August 21 in the forest area of Viotia, about 120 kilometers north of Athens, has lasted for three days.
