Unscrupulous: Migrants Abandoned in Closed Trailer Amid Fire Disaster
The burned bodies of 18 migrants were found yesterday in the forest fire that was continuing in the Meriç border region of Alexandroupolis (Evros) province in Western Thrace, Greece.
As the forest fire continued unchecked, police teams headed to the scene after a vehicle with a box trailer was abandoned in the region near Alexandroupoli and the forest fire.
13 MIGRANTS IN CLOSED TRAILER
When the police opened the locked door of the trailer, they found many immigrants inside.
13 migrants, who were reported to have passed out due to lack of air in the trailer, were understood to be Pakistani and Syrian nationals.
While the immigrants were unloaded from the caravan, the driver of the vehicle of foreign nationality, who was hiding in the search carried out in the region, was also located and arrested.
The Greek police statement stated that approximately 900 immigrants from the Dedaaç region crossed the border every day and hid in the forest area.
